Winters in the Midwest can get cold for our furry friends.  I designed this poncho with a hood to give Jimmy a little warmth in the winter months.

Wool Ease

1 oxford grey

1 wheat

Size K crochet hook

Darning needle

Button

Hooded Dog Shawl Directions

Start with grey Ch 2

Row 1: (sc, dc, sc) in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, turn

Row 2: (hdc, dc) in first sc, sc in next dc, (dc, hdc) in last sc, ch 1 turn

Row 3: (hdc, dc) in first hdc, (sc in each dc and dc in each sc across), (dc, hdc) in last hdc, ch1

Row 4: turn, Repeat row 3, change yarn to oatmeal

Row 5-6: turn, Repeat row 3, change yarn to grey

Row7-10: turn, repeat row 3, change yarn to oatmeal

Row 11-22: repeat row 5-10 2 times

To adjust for your dog: Repeat rows 5-10 until the wide end reaches touch when you wrap it around your dog’s neck.

Row 23: turn, hdc in first hdc, (sc in each dc and dc in each sc across), hdc in last hdc, ch 1

Row 24: repeat row 23

To adjust for your dog: For larger dogs you will need to repeat row 23 a few more times.

Row 25: turn, hdc in first hdc, (sc in each dc and dc in each sc across). The last two stitches of this row will be ch1, sk st, hdc in last hdc, ch 1

Row 26: turn, hdc in first hdc, (sc in each dc and dc in each sc across) ????, hdc in last hdc, finish off

Hood

Number of stitch/6 = N

Row 1: With grey start in the 7th st from the end, ch 1, hdc in same st as ch, (sc in each dc and dc in each sc for 23 sts), hdc in nx st, ch 1

To adjust for your dog: Measure with of shawl and divide by 6. This is where to start and stop the hood (your hdc sts).

Row 2: turn, hdc in first hdc, (sc in each dc and dc in each sc across), hdc in last hdc, ch 1

Row 3- 12: Repeat row 2

Row 13: turn, hdc in same st as ch, (sc in each dc and dc in each sc) for 7 sts, dec 3 times, (sc in each dc and dc in each sc) for 8 sts, hdc in last st.

Row 14:

Fringe

Cut yarn into 3” pieces. Group 4 pieces of yarn together make fringe.
