ApplicationIcon.png for the Windows Phone

In my last post in Step 11  I said if Step 10 didn’t work then do

  • right click on the ApplicationIcon.png
  • select Edit Externally
  • Paste in your icon
  • Save the file

Note: You will have to restart the emulator to get this change to show up.

It’s been bugging me and finally I wondered if there was a setting(s) for file properties that needed to be changed  just like in for the splash screen as described in this blog post by Page Brooks http://pagebrooks.com/archive/2010/03/21/custom-splash-screen-for-windows-phone.aspx.   As it turns out the Build Action needs to be set to “Content” AND the copy to Output needs to be set to “Copy if newer”.  By setting having these two properties set properly all you need to do is have the correct name on your icon and just run your program and tada you icon now shows up.
